In 1986 a small group of enterprising Zug residents had an idea - why not put on an English-language musical right here in Zug? Why should the Zug community have to go all the way to the West End of London or Broadway in New York?
So they carefully selected a much loved show that had run over 1'200 times when it first opened in New York in 1950 - Guys and Dolls. In May 1987 the show was performed in front of an enthusiastic audience in the Aula Loreto.

Since then, the English Theatre Group of Zug, as it became known, has staged some 50 performances of various types: classic musicals including Chicago, Oklahoma! and Kiss Me Kate, but also British pantos such as Cinderella and Mother Goose and, completing the list, smaller off Broadway musicals such as Inside Out.
The English Theatre Group of Zug is a non-profit association of amateur performers and supporters. Finances for productions are obtained through ticket revenues, sponsorships and donations from individuals and corporations. Membership fees are used to cover the group's running costs; net proceeds from productions are used to finance future shows.
