Did you know that in Zug there is a place where you can go for help with all questions - big and small - about life in Switzerland?

It is called Fachstelle Migration Zug (FMZ) and for nearly 60 years this support service of the Canton of Zug has been helping both foreign residents and Zugers to find out what they need to know from A-Z.

Since helping migrant seasonal workers understand their rights in their own language in 1964, the service has grown to include 12 languages, reflecting Zug's diverse community.

As well as offering information in foreign languages, the team at FMZ have a deep understanding of the challenges faced by newcomers to Switzerland.

From questions about parking and rent laws to legal advice about divorce, residency, social security, and finance. If they do not know the answer, they are just a phone call away from the expert who does.

To address frequently asked questions, regular seminars in multiple languages take place, covering essential topics including education, healthcare, insurance, and other important subjects.

FMZ also organise the Zug Host Programme, which connects newcomers with local "hosts" to improve their knowledge of Zug and make new friends.

The FMZ Welcome Desk is open Monday to Thursday for quick questions, but you should make an appointment for more complicated questions. A 30-minute Newcomer Consultation is free, and further personal consultations cost 10/20 francs for 2 appointments, depending on income.
