ZVB wants to completely change to E-buses

The ZVB (Zugerland Verkehrsbetriebe = Zug Transport Company) believes in electro-mobility, and is expanding it step by step. The first experiences with the new E-Bus in trial service have been good, and have provided valuable information, which has been incorporated into the operational processes, informs the ZVB. The ZVB now wants to switch over completely change to electric vehicles by 2021. This will require the purchase of additional battery-powered buses, and the preparatory work for the corresponding call for tenders has been started.

The ZVB has sketched a roadmap to the E-future. The long-term goal is CO2-neutral line operation by 2035. This will be achieved through stages that are periodically reviewed and adapted as needed. The new E-line is thereby the next stop. "We are constantly learning about this, and want to benefit from technological developments," says Cyrill Weber, ZVB's corporate director. Other drive technologies are also actively monitored.

Operational and financial feasibility is a prerequisite for the achievement of the long-term goal of 2035. A crucial factor here is that the financial sustainability is ensured and that the appropriate funds for a CO2-free public transport operation in Zug are provided. "The insights gained with the first E-bus are very valuable and are part of the planning for the new ZVB main base." The new building, which will be ready for occupancy after 2030, will be optimally geared to the new technologies.
