Zug's hospitals impose visitor ban due to Corona virus

Up to Sunday afternoon, 18 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Canton. The second result was still pending for two of them.

From Monday, March 16, 2020, 8 a.m., admission restrictions will apply to visitors to the Zug Cantonal Hospital in Baar and the Andreas Clinic in Cham. The only exceptions will be for specific patient situations, say the two hospitals in a joint letter The partners of mothers giving birth, the parents of underage children and close relatives of people who are in need of support or who are dying, for example, will be admitted.

As the director of the Zug Cantonal Hospital Matthias Winistörfer explains, the latter will also apply to the relatives of dying people if the dying person has been infected with the corona virus. "The measure is about protecting those patients who are with us due to other diseases - and who are mostly among the most vulnerable people." Winistörfer uses the example of a two-bed room. Because it is assumed that a large number of infected people could be unaware that they have a corona virus infection. and are thereby highly contagious, there is a danger that a visit by such a relative could possibly infect not only the patient being visited, but also the patient sharing his/her room. The hospital will organise an access control later this week. "Visitors will have to announce who they want to visit, and the relationship they have to the patient."

Otherwise, there is currently normal operation at the Cantonal Hospital in Zug, according to Winistörfer. No Covid 19 patients were in hospital treatment in Baar as of Sunday afternoon. On the other hand, significantly more people have reported Covid 19 symptoms since the restrictions imposed by the federal government on Friday. Those people who did not meet the requirements for carrying out the test that has been in force last Monday have been turned away, says Winistörfer. "We have carried out 20 or more tests in the past few days in which the requirements for the test have been met."

The canton of Zug has 18 positive tests
According to Martin Pfister, director of health in Zug, there were 16 confirmed cases as of Sunday, 3 p.m. and two people for whom the second confirmation is still pending. Nobody has been hospitalised in the Andreas Clinic. "The infected are at home and are doing well," said Pfister.
