Zuger SEEfest with a new concept

After a two-year enforced break for well-known reasons, there is yet another incentive to spend time on the Zug’s lake promenade. The Zuger SEEfest is back with a captivating programme on Saturday, 25 June. The traditional event will be held for the last time in its previous concept.

Like many other events, the Zuger SEEfest had to take a back seat during the Corona pandemic, but can now once again serve as a meeting place for Zug residents. This year's primary focus is on interaction and the idea of enjoying a pleasant evening together. Local and out-of-town singers and songwriters will provide the atmosphere on small stages, but in such a way that people can engage in conversation.

Full steam ahead on Saturday, nothing on Sunday
In addition to concerts, food stalls and social gatherings, the Zuger SEEfest always offers highlights such as fireworks and an air show. If the weather permits, it gets a little louder between 17:30 and 18:30. For the opening, and as a highlight, the Patrouille Suisse will fly in with the PC7 squadron, each followed by a 24-minute show (training will take place on Friday, 24 June, from 15:45 to 16:45). There will then be a 15-minute fireworks display at 22:30 - shorter than before, but just as enjoyable. Pet owners are asked to protect their pets or bring them indoors. Because it will be noisy on Saturday, the organisers have decided not to hold any events on Sunday in order to protect residents from additional noise pollution.

Visitors are responsible for disposing of any waste they bring with them
As with all significant events, tons of waste have been collected and disposed of at Zuger SEEfest over the years. "We have noticed that almost a third of the waste consists of items brought in from petrol stations and takeaways," says Daniel Schärer. "It's OK if visitors don't buy their food and drink from us, but those who consume at the event and don't contribute could at least throw their waste in the bins that are three metres away. We would like to see more responsibility and respect in this regard. At least towards all those who stick to the token waste system."

Prospect of a new, modern concept
The Zuger SEEfest has a long tradition, but the ZugSPORTS association took over the Zuger SEEfest from the FFZ in 2018. It was, however, not possible to adopt a new concept within the 4-year period of the city of Zug. The mandate was clearly defined.

After Zuger SEEfest had to be cancelled twice (2020 and 2021) due to Corona, 2022 will be the last edition of the current 4-year period, before continuing in 2023 with an adapted concept. The fireworks and the air show thrill many people, but criticism is growing louder. There are also new ideas and possibilities. The organisers have spent the last two years exploring new solutions (drone shows, laser shows, water shows, etc.) and calculating costs, and have submitted a new proposal to the City of Zug under the name 'ZugMAGIC - Magic ZUG' for a more sustainable SEEfest. Daniel Schärer has a message for everyone upset about the fireworks and air show: "This year will be loud again, but we'll skip Sunday, shorten the fireworks, and collaborate with the city on a new idea for 2023+." As a result, one can be excited about what is to come.
