Zug Fair to start this Saturday

This Saturday, 19 October, the Zug Fair, the largest autumn fair in central Switzerland, will be opening its doors to the public for 10 days, with some 80,000 visitors expected.

As previously reported, the guest canton at this year’s Zug fair is Uri, with visitors able to see a huge scale model of the canton and see many of the beautiful sights it has to offer with the help of virtual reality glasses.

One of the special attractions this year features the Zug-based Nord Stream 2 company, responsible for the largest European energy infrastructure project involving a 1,230-kilometre pipeline bringing gas direct from Russia to Europe.

As usual the Zug Police will have their own stand; their theme this year being domestic violence. Then, the Federal Customs Administration and the Zug Farmers’ Association will also have their own stands, joining some 400 other exhibitors at this year’s fair, the 48th time it has taken place.

As the fair’s managing director, Peter Binggeli, added, there will be no shortage of restaurants, bars and cafés, with the street-food market, which proved so poplar last year, taking place again. In addition, there will be concerts, fashion shows, performances of yodelling and the opportunity to take to the dancefloor, not to mention inspect all the various products, such as robot vacuum cleaners, on display and find out about a range of services on offer. “Even though some of the stands will be run by those who have been present at many of the previous fairs, there is always something new to be seen,” said Binggeler.

The Zug Fair, which takes place on the Stierenmarkt (bull market) and Hafen (harbour) areas of the city, will continue until Sunday 27 October. Further information can be found on www.zugermesse.ch
