Work starts on construction of two multi-family dwelling-units

The ground-breaking ceremony took place at the end of last week for a development of two multi-family dwelling units on Ibelweg in the city.

As Peter Niederberger, the chairman of the Familia Zug Housing Cooperative behind the development, said, the new buildings will replace two about to be demolished and provide their new occupants with contemporary family-friendly accommodation. Indeed, he added that, subject to various regulations being adhered to, it could also be possible to offer the flats in the affordable rent category.

As previously reported, back in October of 2015, when plans for this project in this Gartenstadt area of the city were announced, some 1,200 signatures were collected in a petition to prevent this development on Aabachstrasse and Hertistrasse going ahead, not least as it was feared affordable flats would be lost. Indeed, five objections, details of which have not been disclosed, remain outstanding.

What Niederberger wanted to emphasise was that all of those who had had to leave the buildings about to be demolished were able to find appropriate alternative accommodation in good time, something which should not be underestimated.

When the whole project is complete in 2025, the new development will consist of 86 new flats in six multi-family dwelling-units and 13 terraced houses with covered parking facilities, for cycles, too, a community room, a heating plant and outside parking for 94 cars.
