Withdrawing money from the Migros Bank in Zug late at night no longer possible

The Migros Bank on the Baarerstrassein Zug is now closing its ATM zone from 11 pm to 5 am. It seems that this has to do with the recent increase in the number of ATM burglaries.

If you need cash late at night or simply want to warm up yourself up for a few minutes - as some night owls or homeless people apparently sometimes do – you’ll be out of luck at the Migros Bank on the Baarerstrasse in Zug. From the last few days on, it has no longer been possible to enter the bank zone with the two ATMs between 11 pm to 5 am. A notice in the bank informs customers about this change.

The door of the Migros Bank in Zug now remains closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.

On the one hand, Migros Bank cites preventive protection against damage to its equipment and its premises as the reason for this measure. On the other hand, it also serves to protect the building residents.

What does this mean? An enquiry to the press office of the bank yielded little enlightening information: restricting the opening hours of the ATM zones is a most effective security measure, combined with other technical precautions that are customary in the industry, and about which the bank does not provide any more detailed information.

An article in the "Handelszeitung" sheds light on the matter, however. It says that the Migros Bank is thereby reacting to the increase in ATM burglaries in Switzerland by restricting the opening hours of the previously 24-hour zone at all its locations. Other banks will probably also follow this example.
