Two suspected burglars arrested while on the run

Two men forcibly gained access to a shop, but the suspected burglars were able to be arrested while on the run,. The public prosecutor's office has now opened a criminal investigation.

At around 02:00 a.m. on last Wednesday night (15 June 2022), two masked persons forcibly gained access to a shop on the Bundesplatz in the city of Zug. There, they stole numerous electronic devices from several counters, and left the shop through the previously broken entrance area.

The Operations Control Centre of the Zug Police received a corresponding alarm, and deployed several police patrols to the scene. One of these patrols saw a suspicious vehicle with foreign license plates on the Chamerstrasse. When the occupants saw the police approaching, they tried to escape being checked. The car crashed into a fence on the Mattenstrasse in the municipality of Cham, however, (see photo) after which  the two occupants fled on foot.

The police managed to track them down, however, and arrested the two men in the area of  the Hinterbergstrasse in the municipality of Cham. The men are Romanian nationals aged 17 and 20. The Public Prosecutor's Office of the Canton of Zug and the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office have each opened criminal proceedings.

The stolen goods included several smartphones, tablets and smartwatches worth around CHF 20,000. All the goods were successfully recovered.
