Two cars written off in city-centre accident

Two women had to be taken to hospital for a check-up after their car as involved in collision with another in the city centre on Saturday afternoon.

It was at 1.45 pm that the 24-year-old woman driver intended to go from Aabachstrasse to Gubelstrasse but failed to notice a car leaving Gubelstrasse for General Guisan Strasse, which had priority.

In the ensuing collision, both the 24-year-old woman driver and her 23-year-old woman passenger were slightly injured and taken to hospital for a check-up while the 48-year-old driver of the other car was uninjured.

As can be seen from the photographs, both vehicles were written-off in the incident.

In a second unrelated road traffic incident, locals notified the police after a taxi was seen to be driven down steps by the Golden Kiosk to get to the station jetty on Sunday afternoon.

When subsequently questioned by the police about it, the 77-year-old driver said he just wanted to get as near as possible to the jetty for the sake of his disabled lady passenger. A breathalyser test proved negative, but the driver will still face charges.

The flight of steps he drove down can be seen in the background of the photograph.
