Two ‘fender benders’ on Zug roads

A road roller in Rotkreuz started to move on its own, and slid off its transport vehicle onto the road. There was also a rear-end collision on the motorway.

On Friday afternoon, 11 September, just before 12.15 p.m., a road roller slid onto the carriageway on the Birkenstrasse in Rotkreuz. An oncoming vehicle was unable to brake in time, and crashed head-on into the construction machine, according to a press release from Frank Kleiner, spokesman for the Zug Law Enforcement Agencies.

The 60-year-old motorist was fortunately uninjured. The 28-year-old lorry driver, on the other hand, was charged by the police, and will appear before the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Canton of Zug. The road roller had to be salvaged with a pneumatic crane, and the Birkenstrasse remained closed in both directions during this time.

Accident at the Blegi curve
Shortly before 1 p.m., another traffic accident occurred on the A4a motorway, immediately after the Blegi curve in the direction of Lucerne. A car braked abruptly on the normal lane, and a following van crashed violently into the rear of the car. Both vehicles were complete write-offs.

Fortunately, the occupants were unharmed, and the cause of the accident is now the subject of a police investigation. The 51-year-old female driver suspected a technical defect, and the vehicle was therefore secured for further investigation. The accident resulted in a long queue of traffic on the motorway.

Because oil had leaked from the damaged vehicles, the Zug fire brigade (FFZ) and the road maintenance service were deployed, in addition to the Zug police.
