Traffic accidents in Neuheim and Cham on Thursday

A car and a motorcycle collided head-on in Neuheim on early Thursday afternoon. The motorcyclist had to be airlifted to the hospital by helicopter. A car driver also crashed into two oncoming vehicles in Cham.
 

Shortly after 2 pm on Thursday, May 21, a car driver who was traveling towards Sihlbrugg on the Edlibachstrasse in Neuheim attempted to overtake a lorry in front of him. According to a statement of Friday from the Zug Police, this resulted in a collision with an oncoming motorcycle. The 58-year-old motorcyclist fell into the adjacent field, and sustained serious injuries. After receiving initial medical treatment from the Zug Ambulance Service, he was airlifted by a Rega rescue helicopter to a hospital outside the canton. The 25-year-old driver who caused the accident remained uninjured.

While the injured motorcyclist was being rescued and treated, and during the subsequent investigation of the accident site, the Edlibachstrasse had to be closed in the area of the accident. A detour was set up by the Neuheim and Menzingen fire departments.

Shortly before, at approximately 12:15 pm, a 72-year-old driver in Cham drove over a traffic island on the Zugerstrasse near the Alpenblick intersection, and into the oncoming lane. There, he first sideswiped an oncoming vehicle and then collided with the side of a second oncoming car. Another car was damaged by a previously knocked-down traffic island bollard. Fortunately, no-one was injured in the incident.

According to police, the total damage to the four cars amounts to several tens of thousands of Swiss Francs. Two of the vehicles were no longer drivable, and had to be towed away by a private towing company. The exact cause of the accident is the subject of further investigation.
