To keep Switzerland Swiss - why Thomas Aeschi wants to keep his seat in the National Council

Unlike other hopefuls seeking election to the National Council, Thomas Aeschi of the SVP party already represents Zug there. Nevertheless, he wants to retain his seat, not least to ensure Switzerland remains Swiss.

The Baar-resident management consultant has represented Zug in Bern for eight years now, during which time he said he had really supported both the canton of Zug and Switzerland as an economic location. “Bearing in mind the weakening economic situation and the attempts by the EU to put us under pressure, it is my firm intention to continue this challenging task (of supporting Zug and Switzerland) in an even stronger way over the next legislative period,” he said.

As to the three issues closest to his heart, the 40-year-old mentioned the defence of freedom, independence and direct democracy “so that we Swiss, and not the EU, determine what happens in our own country,” he said. “I shall continue to strive for attractive economic conditions with low taxes, less legal paternalism and a strong middle class and all this to ensure that our Swiss traditions and cultural assets are maintained so that our homeland, Switzerland, remains, Swiss.

As to his chances of success, the leader of the SVP parliamentary party in Bern said it had always been, and remained, a privilege for him to represent the people of Zug in the National Council. “It is up to them to choose whomever they want to represent them over the next four years.”

As to why people should vote for him personally, he wanted to take this opportunity to thanks all those people of Zug for the trust they had put in his political activities hitherto. “With their ongoing support, I will continue with all my strength to fight for the wellbeing of Switzerland,” he concluded.
