Time for more Green Liberals to be represented in Bern - says candidate Stefan Huber
Stefan Huber, who leads the Green Liberal Party (GLP) on the city council, has announced he is to stand for election to the National Council in Bern this autumn. When asked why he had come to this decision, he said he was an inquisitive, independent politician of the centre who relished challenges to get things changed.
When asked what issues in particular he would support in parliament, he mentioned the dual system of education, “the country’s only resource”. He felt also it was only right, not least out of love for children, that the environment should be managed in a sustainable way, something which should have been happening for years. Furthermore, he looked to see the development of a more independent and transparent way of conducting politics. The only thing he felt politicians should do was that what they stood for, or to stand by that what they did. “There is nothing between, other than bad character,” he insisted.
As to his chances of being elected, the 32-year-old put these at five per cent. “Unlike with right-wing parties, none of us in the Green Liberals is out to carve a political career. And for this reason, I think the time has come for more Green Liberals to be elected.”
When asked why he felt he should be elected, he said he was strong enough to be able to see through complex issues. Furthermore, as a teacher of pupils in the early years of secondary education, he appreciated being close to young people of diverse backgrounds and was used to finding solutions to difficult problems not least through creativity and engagement.
