Thunderstorm caused damage to the Dorfmatt Centre

Part of the roof was blown away on Monday evening, and water came into the hall. The municipality got off lightly, says municipal  clerk Ivo Krummenacher.

The thunderstorm of last Monday evening caused devastation in many areas. The storm was particularly severe in Rotkreuz, and the Dorfmatt Centre, along with other places, was damaged, with the result that an information event scheduled for 7.30 p.m. had to be cancelled at short notice.

Part of the roof of the Dorfmatt Centre was blown away by the strong winds, according to a report by as the municipality. This resulted in water entering the interior of the hall and causing damage to the ceiling, wall cladding and furnishings. In addition to the damage to the roof, the hailstorm clogged the roof drains, which led to the penetration of water, as indicated by municipal clerk (Gemeindeschreiber) Ivo Krummenacher. "Provisional work has been carried out In the last few days to ensure that no more water penetrates the hall in the event of further rain."

The outdoor pool (Freibad) was also affected, as well as these trees on the lakeside promenade in Buonas.

Insulating layer soaked through
The water has probably soaked the insulation layer in the ceiling and walls. Ivo Krummenacher: "The extent of the damage has not yet been determined, and soundings will have to be carried out for this." It is also still unclear at the moment exactly how the damage will be repaired. The wall coverings have also been damaged, which will entail extensive carpentry work. "We assume that the complete extent of the damage, as well as the further steps, will become clear by the end of next week," said the municipal clerk.

It currently does not look as if like a lot of money will have to be spent on the repair work, however. "Compared to the damage that the farmers have suffered (total failure of the harvest), the municipality got off lightly, despite everything."

The outdoor pool (Freibad) was also affected, as well as these trees on the lakeside promenade in Buonas.
