Three arrests during checks against illegal employment

In a coordinated operation, the police forces from Central Switzerland checked businesses and construction sites for illegal employment. Three people were thereby arrested.

Police forces from the cantons of Lucerne, Schwyz, Nidwalden and Zug took part in the cross-cantonal check on Wednesday of this week, with the support of employees from other cantonal offices.

The aim of the operation was to ensure compliance with labour, immigration and social security regulations for companies in various sectors. This was announced by the Zug law enforcement authorities on Thursday.

A total of 180 people on construction sites, in catering establishments and barber shops were checked. "This resulted in suspected cases of illegal employment relationships, undeclared social insurance cases and non-existent work permits," the statement continues.

Five people were reported for violating the Foreign Nationals and Integration Act (Ausländer- und Integrationsgesetz). According to the authorities, three of them were temporarily detained. In order to ensure compliance with all legal provisions and to promote fair working conditions, the police corps involved and the offices involved will continue to carry out appropriate checks in future, the statement continued.
