Thick smoke development due to defective freezer

There was thick smoke in a single-family house In Cham on Wednesday. The residents were able to leave the house themselves, but were taken to hospital for checks.

Thick smoke developed in the basement of a single-family house on the St. Jakobsstrasse in Cham at 9.30 a.m. on Wednesday, 23 June. The smoke rapidly spread throughout the house, according to a statement from the Zug police. The two residents were able to leave the building on their own, but were treated by the Zug Ambulance Service and transferred to hospital for checks.

The Forensic Service of the Zug Police was called in to trace and clarify the cause of the fire. As the investigations revealed, a technical defect in a freezer had led to the development of the smoke. The house is no longer habitable, as the smoke has eaten into the walls, which could be also toxic. The material damage cannot yet be quantified, according to the statement from the police.
