Theft planned in advance

A man stole an expensive ladies' coat in the centre of Zug. The shoplifter was stopped and arrested by civilian investigators of the Zug police.

On Friday afternoon (11 November 2022), the Control Centre of the Zug Police received a report that a man had just stolen a lady's coat worth around CHF 2,200 from a shop in the centre of Zug.

Plain clothes investigators of the Zug police found the described person a short time later on the premises of Zug railway station. The 51-year-old man from Bosnia-Herzegovina was subsequently stopped and arrested.

During his interrogation, the man, who is in Switzerland illegally, admitted to the shoplifting. He also stated that he had deliberately travelled to Zug by train in order to commit thefts here.

The public prosecutor's office of the Canton of Zug sentenced the man to an unconditional prison sentence for violation of the Aliens and Integration Act and for theft.
