The Zugerberg mountain railway takes a break

The annual spring maintenance of the Zugerberg catenary railway will take place from 6 to 16 April. During this time, access to the Zugerberg will be provided by buses.

The operation of the Zugerberg mountain railway (Zugerbergbahn) will be suspended from 6 to 16 April for the annual maintenance work, as has been announced by the ZVB media office. During this time, ZVB buses will run from the Schönegg valley station to the mountain station and back. The Zugerbergbahn will run again as scheduled from Saturday, 17 April.

The timetable will be reduced during this period, and information about this is available on www.zbb.ch, at the travel centre at Zug station, and at the mountain and valley station of the Zugerbergbahn.

Choose your time when travelling to the Zugerberg

The Zugerbergbahn or its replacement buses perform a connecting service for Zugerberg residents and the students of the Montana Institute. The regular trains/buses can therefore be very busy between Monday to Friday. Hikers and families wanting to visit the Zugerberg are therefore strongly advised to plan their trip to avoid the busier times. The number of places in the vehicles will also be limited during the spring maintenance shutdown, and it may be necessary to wait for the next one.

In concrete terms, according to experience, the following times tend to be very busy: Monday to Friday 3 pm to 4 p.m. downhill, in fine weather at weekends 10 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. uphill and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. downhill. The public transport protection concept, including the wearing of face masks, applies in the Zugerbergbahn, as well as in the replacement buses.
