The "Rosengarten" now entirely run by women

The traditional restaurant in Lindencham will soon be opening its doors again. The owner, the municipality of Cham, has renovated the property in recent months.

With Gaby Spiess-Hartmann and Stephanie Köpfli-Hartmann, a well-rehearsed team has now taken over the management of the “Rosengarten", as the municipality of Cham reports. After the publication of the request for tender, the sister couple won out against the many other competitors at the beginning of this year. Despite the pandemic-related uncertainties, numerous interested parties had expressed their interest to the Department of Planning and Construction in the municipality of Cham. In justifying its choice, the municipality stated that the new tenants were not only successful because they have a lot of experience, but also because they have the necessary feeling for this wonderful property.

"We are very much looking forward to breathe life back into the 'Rosengarten' and to soon be able to open our doors to our guests," says Gaby Spiess. Her sister Stephanie Köpfli adds: "Even if Corona will still be a problem for some time yet, and make it more difficult for us as hosts, our love of gastronomy and the joy of cooking and hosting our guests are so great that we are simply in a positive mood and are very grateful for this opportunity." They will offer a varied, traditional cuisine with seasonal dishes and products from the region.

The two restaurateurs succeed the married couple Martin Karl and Marlies Benz, who ran the restaurant with a lot of passion from 1996 to 2020. The restaurant has remained closed since last December, following the death of Martin Karl Benz.

Brighter guest room, and a modern infrastructure
Because the property was well preserved but a little old, the municipality of Cham has had the interior extensively renovated. "The catering area has been refreshed and the kitchen and the buffet have been completely renewed," explains Jennifer Barmettler from the Cham Planning and Construction Department (Abteilung Planung und Hochbau). "By removing a partition wall, the guest room will be more airy and brighter in the future." In addition, materials have been chosen that provide a peaceful and natural ambience, and thereby reflect not only the tradition of the house, but also the surrounding landscape.

The "Rosengarten" has been owned by the municipality of Cham since 2009. The municipality bought the inn at that time in order to be able to use the existing hotel rooms as social and emergency rooms. The restaurant will now re-open on 2 August 2021, and will further enrich the gastronomic offer in the municipality.
