The restaurant in the renovated Theilerhaus will open on 17th January

Built in 1896, the Theilerhaus in Zug was the birthplace of Landis & Gyr, the globally operating electricity meter company and a major employer of the 20th century.

From the 1950s onward, people from Italy came to Zug in search of work. The "Strada della Speranza" (Street of Hope) became the nickname for the Baarerstrasse in Zug, where many Italians working for Landis & Gyr lived in the former ‘Inducta’ factory building.

The Canton of Zug purchased the building in 1989, thereby saving it from demolition, and it was designated a historical monument in 2007.

The new restaurant concept of the Theilerhaus harks back to this era: the restaurant is called "La Speranza" - and, naturally, features Italian cuisine. The restaurant's name commemorates the history of the Italians who worked at Landis & Gyr.

According to a press release from the City of Zug, the restaurant will open on the 17th January 2026.

The menu and opening hours can be found on the website: Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Thursday through Saturday from 9 am to 11 pm.
