The new Herti Centre will be officially opened on Thursday

The Migros has refreshed and brightened the Herti Centre in Zug. Even something tried and tested is experiencing a rebirth.

Shopping in a container is no fun over the long term. Working from a container is even less attractive – especially in peak corona virus times. After almost ten months in these cramped conditions, the provisional solution for the Herti will now come to an end.

From Thursday, October 15, there will be much more of Migros to be found in the new Herti Centre. The 1,500 square metres of retail space that is now available is not quite enough for a two-MM designation. According to Antonia Reinhard from the press office of the Migros Lucerne cooperative, however, this supermarket is "the largest of the little ones" in Central Switzerland. There is now a served meat and fish counter in the new Migros, opposite the previous sales area. The range of products also leaves almost nothing to be desired. The increased space also means an increase in the selection of items from the low-cost brands, which helps with the shopping budget. Together, the 16 different shops that can be found in the Herti Centre in addition to the Migros cover a very wide range of requirements.

Core of the building more or less replaced
Migros has spent around CHF 30 million on the reconstruction of the Herti Centre. Walter Baumann, Head of Real Estate, Construction and Centre Management at the Migros Lucerne Cooperative, proudly points out that the building authority "gave around 80% of the reconstruction orders to handicraft companies from the canton of Zug." Baumann also reveals that "we have actually rebuilt the whole centre". It appears that the condition of the buildings, which date back to 1983, was no longer the best, and, taking this into consideration, the contractors showed a lot of commitment – despite the corona virus.

Another representative involved in the construction of the centre said that the virus had hardly hindered construction work, but has made the work more expensive - although no-one wanted to give exact figures. Instead, the Migros stated that they were happy to see how their shopping mall, which they purchased in 2014, now provides more brightness than its predecessor. The concept with the four entrances has survived the refurbishment. These four axes all end up in a large square. Many of the tenants – with the exception of the sales premises of the other major wholesaler, the Coop – have also found their place in the new Herti Centre. The Bossard Bakery with a café, which has been a popular meeting place for years, has moved a little to the east, but. like many others, now looks much brighter.

Even the Post Office has secured a place in the new shopping centre of Zug West. The retirees in this district, where about 5,000 people live, are sure to be happy about this.

A popular meeting place cleared and brightened
The Migros is also glad that the operator of the restaurant Sandi has decided to continue. The legendary dark stone floor is no longer there, and the tables are also lighter. As some of the restaurant couldn’t be seen as part of the official tour, a full overview can be expected on Thursday.

The grocery stores in the Herti Centre, which include a Denner, are already open as early as 7.30 a.m., and close at 7 p.m. According to a flyer, the "Sandi" is open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
