The Kino Lux cinema now offers more comfort

The cinema industry is going through difficult times in the wake of the Corona pandemic. The owners of the Kino Lux cinema in Baar have used the downtime for a renovation.

Film lovers who prefer to enjoy films on the big screen have had to do without throughout the first half of 2020. The corona virus crisis has made it impossible to visit a cinema. Watching movies on the home TV screen may be a substitute in some way, but it certainly doesn’t replace the cinematic experience. Cinemas have now re-opened under strict conditions, and there are several blockbusters in the pipeline.

The first of these, "Tenet", had its premiere on August 26. Christopher Nolan is the director of this sci-fi adventure. The British-American citizen has already delivered many memorable films, such  "Dunkirk", "Interstellar", "Inception" and "Insomnia". The film content in a nutshell: the world has to be saved. Anyone who knows the 50-year-old director's films is hoping that the film "Tenet" will not disappoint.

Capacity one third lower
Nolan's latest production had its world premiere on August 26. This coincides well with the reopening of the Kino Lux in Baar on 28 August. The two owners, Adrian and Alban Hürlimann, have had this cinema in the village centre of Baar extensively renovated, with the work at the Kino Lux taking about four months.

The seating has been redesigned.

The most striking innovation is with regard to the cinema seats. The redesigned seating arrangement has reduced the capacity from 247 seats to 168. This is a reduction of around one third. Cinemagoers will sit more comfortably than before, however, according to a press release. The so-called Love-Seats have been kept for the Baar cinemagoers. The owners will have had a row of extra-comfortable individual seats installed in the near future, but the production of these seats has been delayed due to the corona pandemic.

Original versions are still maintained
As Thomas Ulrich, the operator of the three cinemas in the canton, says, the programming will not change immediately. Explaining his approach, Thomas Ulrich says: "We will continue to strive to fulfil our obligations as a monopolist, and to provide a diverse range of services." But the Zug cinema operator is also under no illusions: "A complete offer is simply not possible with ten film launches per week and four theatre halls."

It is thanks to Thomas Ulrich that the range of original versions is still being maintained. As Ulrich also notes, the German versions of blockbusters are now also very popular with older visitors.

The owners of the Kino Lux cinema in Baar have also replaced the sound system. A system of the same type is already in operation at the Seehof I cinema in Zug. As Thomas Ulrich says, the experience with this system has been very good. Sound engineers have also visited: they are responsible for the sound mixing of films and wanted to hear how the material they mix sounds on a good system.

A lot has also changed in the foyer of the Baar cinema. The lighting from the early days of the Lux have been freshly cleaned, and still decorates the ceiling. The bar has been made smaller, but, as Ulrich explains, it is now better equipped. This has been done with a view to hosting smaller events in the future.
