The government council confirms that the day-care centres will remain open

The Federal Council yesterday supplemented the regulation on measures to combat the coronavirus. It also reconsidered regarding day-care centres. As part of the recent adjustment, it made no specifications to the cantons in this regard, which has led to different regulations among the cantons.

The responsible bodies and authorities in the canton of Zug have now examined the respective supplement to the ordinance, taking into account the decision taken on Saturday for the canton of Zug (the day-care centres remain open), according to a report from the Directorate of the Interior on March 17.

The canton of Zug does not want to increase the burden on working parents through childcare closures.

“The canton of Zug shares the federal government's reasoning: childcare is required so that working parents are not additionally burdened in this difficult situation. In addition, according to the Federal Office of Public Health, children of this age are not the main drivers of this epidemic. For these reasons, the day-care centres in the canton of Zug will remain open,” said the responsible government councillor Andreas Hostettler in the statement. Play groups are not an alternative to day-care centres. As the federal government has also banned club activities since yesterday, play groups are closed in any case.
