The City of Zug grants a night of free public viewing

From Saturday to Sunday, the City of Zug will temporarily permit restaurants and bars in Zug to show television and projection broadcasts.
 

The Swiss national football team has reached the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time since 1954. This is also a very special occasion for the City of Zug, and the council has declared Saturday night a night of free public viewing (Freinacht). For the match against Argentina, "restaurants and bars will be temporarily permitted to show television and projections broadcasts, complete with sound, in their existing outdoor seating areas and indoor spaces."

According to a press release, the City is building on the positive experiences of previous major football events: the offerings were well-received by the public, and the operators complied with the regulations.

"The Swiss national team's advancement to the World Cup quarter-finals is an extraordinary sporting achievement and a special moment for many people. We are delighted that the people of Zug can experience this historic match together and share in the excitement,” said City Councillor Barbara Gysel.

The permit applies to screens and projection surfaces with a diagonal of less than three metres. These may only be used within existing outdoor dining areas. Expanding the outdoor areas or adding additional equipment such as carpets or tents are not permitted.
