Swiss Red Cross Zug helps to stop the downward spiral

From April 2020 onwards, the Swiss Red Cross (SRK) Canton of Zug has been providing emergency financial assistance to people in the canton who are in distress as a result of the Corona crisis.

Switzerland is currently facing a social and economic crisis as a result of the corona virus.  Families who are at risk of poverty and single persons whose loss of work or short-time-work compensation is very low are being affected in particular. People with low-income or families who are living on the poverty line do not have the financial resources to cope with the crisis. The Swiss Red Cross Zug (SRK Zug) has therefore reacted quickly and, from April 2020 onwards, has been providing emergency financial assistance to people in Switzerland who are in need due to the Corona crisis, as is reported in the organisation's press release. Thanks to donations from the Swiss population, the Swiss Glückskette relief organisation and various companies, this aid can be extended until the end of December.

CHF 7 million in emergency aid paid out
"Over the last seven months, we have approved around 7,500 applications in Switzerland, to a total of more than CHF 7 million, and have distributed food vouchers from the Coop to a value of one million Swiss francs," says Adalbert Widmer, Head of the Integration Department, SRK.

This support for people in need in Switzerland is intended to stop the downward spiral and to prevent them from slipping even deeper into poverty. People in need can apply for financial support of up to CHF 1,000 per month per family or individual until the end of December.

CHF 1,000 can be decisive
The emergency help from of the Red Cross Zug can relieve people who would not normally want to apply for assistance, but now need to do this in this particular situation. The SRC offers selective support and relief where the state offer is not yet effective.
