Start-up company selling diarrhoea-prevention tablets secures significant finance from Germany

The Mybacs start-up company of Baar, which sells diarrhoea-prevention tablets, has announced it has secured significant financing from a renowned German internet company.

The founder of Mybacs, Carl-Philipp von Polheim, disclosed last week that the Global Founders Capital (GFC) company, which belongs to the brothers Marc, Oliver and Alexander Samwer, the most successful internet entrepreneurs in Germany, had contributed an undisclosed sum to enable Mybacs to further develop its tablets, which help travellers to acclimatise their own digestive system to whichever region of the world they find themselves in, to avoid problems such as diarrhoea. It was only last autumn that von Polheim set up the company with Sebastian Wahl (on the left in the photograph with von Polheim). While the tablets were developed in Switzerland, they are manufactured and distributed in Germany.

At present, Mybacs, which currently enjoys a monthly turnover in the lower five-figure bracket, employs a staff of four in Baar and a further four in Munich. Thanks to the financial injection from GFC, 25-year-old von Polheim said he planned to engage more staff.

The so-called Travelbacs cost CHF 22 and can be obtained here through the Brack.ch online dealer, which operates a large logistics operation in Willisau in the canton of Lucerne. Not that they will be solely available online, according to the online “Startupticker” journal, Mybacs is currently in negotiation with a large chain of pharmacists to sell its products in 300 of their shops here in Switzerland from November onwards. Furthermore, the company has also completed a deal with an airline company.
