Some trees in the city to be felled

A number of trees in the public green spaces of the city of Zug will have to be felled over the next few weeks.

One reason for this is that they are no longer stable. For example, a sycamore and two lime trees on the Alpenquai are dying, and are so badly damaged that felling is unavoidable. The two lime trees will be replaced, according to a report from the City of Zug.
In the meantime, 16 trees on the Industriestrasse will be felled as part of the road renovation, and will be replaced by 21 new trees.

Trees will also be felled and some will be replaced on the Rigiplatz, the Vorstadtquai, the Falkengasse, the Postplatz, the Hofstrasse and the Letzistrasse, as well as by the lakeside swimming area and the Leichtathletikstadion (athletics stadium).
Numerous thinning and pruning operations are also to be carried out on hedges near school buildings, playgrounds and along bodies of water.

As the city states, trees are the most effective urban climate improvers. Maintaining the existing trees and planting replacements are important measures that are carried out or commissioned by the Zug City Works Department (Werkhof). The tree population on municipal land is constantly being expanded.

393 additional trees were planted on municipal land between 2019 and 2024. As part of the ‘800 additional trees for the city of Zug’ project, further trees will be planted throughout the city.
