Solidarity evening for Nepal
Following the disastrous flash flood in Nepal last week, there will be a Solidarity Evening for Nepal at the Catholic Parish Hall (Katholischen Pfarreiheim) in Cham at 6 pm on Monday, 7th September.
A free collection will be taken for the local food that will be served – Nepalese curry – and, according to the event flyer, all the proceeds from the event will go directly to the people affected by the disaster.
The flash flood buried houses and has left a trail of destruction in a river valley between Nepal and Tibet. The death toll has now risen to over 1,000, and several thousand people are still missing, including a number of Swiss visitors to Nepal.

The Solidarity Evening is being organised by 32-year-old Nepalese Nagendra Puri and the Kiss Cooperative Cham.
Nagendra Puri, who has lived in the Canton of Zug for almost ten years, and is currently training to be a healthcare professional at the Ennetsee Care Centre (Pflegezentrum), became involved out of personal experience: he worked as a mountain guide in the disaster-hit valley for nine years, and knows the region and its people, he says.
He wants to use the occasion to offer support to those affected and to draw attention to the extent of the disaster.
