Snowfall leads to four accidents in the region

The Zug police had a lot to do because of the new snow. There were a number of accidents, with one person being slightly injured - otherwise it was only a case of bodywork damage.

Due to the snowfall, there was a total of four traffic accidents on Wednesday in the canton of Zug and on the motorway in the direction of Affoltern. According to a press release from the Zug police, a 60-year-old car driver lost control of his vehicle in Menzingen, on the cantonal road from Ägeri towards Zug, shortly after 3.30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon. Because his rear of his car came into a skid, he ended up in the oncoming lane, where he had a side/frontal collision with a car that was driving correctly. This second car subsequently ran down the embankment and had to be salvaged by a crane.

The driver of the second car and the person responsible for the accident were uninjured, and were medically checked out by the ambulance service at the scene of the accident. The two vehicles suffered damage of around CHF 35,000. The two rear tyres of the vehicle that caused the accident had too little profile.

Earlier in the morning, a car driver lost control of his vehicle in a slight right-hand bend on the highway in Cham just before 11 a.m. The vehicle crossed both oncoming lanes and slid down the embankment. Apart from shock, the 28-year-old driver was uninjured. The damage to the car, the game fence and the transport infrastructure amounts to around CHF 10,000.

Two accidents on the motorway between Cham and Affoltern
About an hour later, a 32-year-old car driver collided with the guardrail on the A4 motorway near Knonau while overtaking a truck. Fortunately, the only damage was to the car’s bodywork. Shortly after noon, a female driver also collided with the right-hand side of the road in the Rüteli Tunnel on the A4 motorway in the direction of Affoltern, whereupon her car spun around and she came to a halt in the overtaking lane.

The 31-year-old suffered minor injuries, and was taken to hospital for checks. The damage to property amounted to around CHF 10,000.

The wintry road conditions also caused problems for professional drivers. According to the Zug police, a van became stuck on the Vorderbergstrasse in Walchwil, and several semi-trailers had to mount snow chains in order to be able to continue driving on the Drälikerstrasse in Hünenberg. The traffic obstructions and accidents led to some traffic jams.

Employees of the Zug ambulance service, private towing companies and the Zug police were on duty.
