An intoxicated driver crashed into a lamp post in Steinhausen, and a female driver collided head-on with an oncoming car in Neuägeri, causing a rear-end collision involving two other vehicles.
Shortly before 5:00 am on early Sunday morning, 7th December, a 21-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle on the Knonauerstrasse in the municipality of Steinhausen, drove off the road and crossed a grassy verge, before crashing into a lamp post with the right front of his car. The vehicle finally came to a stop on the road approximately 20 metres after the collision. No one was injured, according to the Zug police.
A breathalyser test on the driver who caused the accident showed a blood alcohol level of 1.58 per mil (0.79 mg/l). The 21-year-old's probationary driver's license was confiscated on the spot and forwarded to the Road Traffic Office. Four people injured in accidents in Neuägeri
Another traffic accident occurred later that same day, on the Zugerstrasse in Neuägeri (municipality of Baar) at 5:15 pm. An 81-year-old female driver who was traveling towards Ägeri crossed into the oncoming lane just before the Schmittli intersection and collided head-on with an oncoming car.
A following female driver, who was also traveling towards Ägeri, had to brake sharply due to the head-on collision, but a delivery van driver behind her was unable to stop in time and crashed into the rear of her vehicle. Three people sustained minor injuries in the two collisions and were transported to the hospital by the Zug Ambulance Service for observation. Another person involved in the accident sought medical treatment independently on Monday morning.
The total property damage to the vehicles involved amounted to several tens of thousands of Swiss francs, and the road had to be closed during the accident investigation and vehicle recovery. Traffic was diverted via Allenwinden.
A blood and urine sample was ordered at the hospital for the 81-year-old woman who caused the head-on collision.
Several emergency vehicles from the Zug ambulance service, a private towing company, the road maintenance service, and officers from the Zug police were on scene.
