Shoplifters arrested at railway stations

Two men stole goods from a sales branch in Zug. Thanks to a valuable citizen’s report, the shoplifters were arrested a little later.

Shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon (21 September 2022), the Zug Police Operations Centre received a report of two persons behaving suspiciously on the Baarerstrasse in Zug. The person making the report was able to describe the two men very well. Non-uniformed police investigators were immediately deployed, and followed up the path taken by the suspects. A little later, they found and searched one of the men on a platform at Zug railway station. The police thereby found goods stolen from a shop on the Bahnhofstrasse in Zug in his effects. The second person was also stopped by the investigators on a railway platform at 5:30 p.m., this time at Baar railway station. He also had stolen goods with him.

The two suspected shoplifters were taken to the police station for further investigation. On checking the video images from the shop, it was found that the men had stolen the food and alcohol bottles that were found with them. Both men admitted the thefts during their interrogation. The two Georgians, both aged 27, will now have to appear before the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Canton of Zug.
