Rocks thunder into the protective nets - Axenstrasse closed until further notice

The Axenstrasse has had to be closed between Tellsplatte and Sisikon since late Wednesday evening. Further flows of debris and rockfalls are not excluded. The area is to be inspected by specialists on Thursday.

Yet another rockfall: on Wednesday evening, shortly after 10.20 pm, the surveillance instruments detected ground movements in the Gumpisch area, which resulted in rocks crashing into the protective nets above the Axenstrasse. As a result, the road had to be immediately closed for security reasons and vehicles already on the Axenstrasse had to be turned back. This is reported bin an announcement from the Uri cantonal police. No persons were injured. Due to the delicate situation on the ground and the darkness, it could not yet be verified whether the road or the bridge had been damaged.
