Restaurants allowed to use ‘mushroom heaters’ during the Corona winter

During the next five winter months, gastro and cultural establishments, retailers and similar outdoor industries in Zug will be able to use mushroom heaters or radiant heaters. The government has temporarily amended the regulations of the Energy Act.

In concrete terms, the mushroom heaters may be used from next Saturday until the end of April 2021, as announced by the Construction Directorate on Thursday. The noise and fire regulations will have to be complied with, however. The government also advises  the companies to invest in renewable systems.

The government council understands the wish of the companies to continue to make use their outdoor spaces, even in the cold season, in this exceptional situation, it continues. It also shares their concerns about those economic activities that are particularly affected by the Corona pandemic.

On Thursday, the cantonal parliament of Zug thereby declared a corresponding postulate by the FDP to be significant, and initiated the adaptation of the legislation that is necessary for the use of mushroom heaters outdoors. The request was approved by the Council from left to right. The request of the ALG (Alternative, Left and Greens) that the canton should bear the additional costs that would be incurred for the use of renewable electricity or gas failed to gain support, however.

On Thursday morning, the canton of Zug reported 69 new Corona cases in the past 24 hours. There have been 3,525 cases in total in Zug since the start of the pandemic. The canton of Schwyz registered 74 new positive tests and two new deaths. 14 additional people tested positive In the canton of Uri, and the number of people who have died in connection with the coronavirus has now increased by 3, to 24.
