Refurbished Roessli restaurant to re-open shortly

The refurbished Rössli restaurant in Hünenberg, now under the management of Ursi and Martin Eggemann, is to re-open shortly.

At present, workmen are busy putting the finishing touches to the renovation of this eatery, actually a listed building, in the St Wolfgang area of the municipality with its delightful views over the plain of the River Reuss.

The Eggimanns are already well known in the catering industry having previously run the Hotel Waldheim in Risch. What was fortunate was that, as that hotel closed, the couple were able bring all their staff with them to the Rössli (little horse) as they all prepare for its re-opening on Friday 5 July.

The Eggimanns had actually been eyeing up the stylish Rössli since they went there as guests themselves. When they subsequently went over to survey it all, it became apparent that a number of alterations would be needed if they were to take it over and they actually turned it down. However, when the owner got to know about this, he subsequently approached them, asked them what they wanted changing and duly had the alterations done.

The guests themselves are hardly likely to notice the changes as they concern more the service areas, such as larger storage areas and a new goods lift, all of which will enable the Eggimanns to cater for more people. One new area guests are sure to notice, however, is a delightful new garden area below the existing terrace, where additional tables to be set up. Of note, too, is that the Maxim bar, which some guests will remember from before on the lower ground floor, is no longer there, as this is where space for the increased storage areas has been found. One of the new projects has been a lounge by the entrance, enabling gusts to see who is passing by as they enjoy a drink.

As for the new restaurant, this has been planned to cater for everyone, from workmen who pop in for a morning snack at around 9 am (a Znüni) or lunch as well as those looking for à la carte menus in the evenings, not forgetting members of associations. Warm meals will continue to be also being offered in the afternoons, albeit with less variety, in addition to snacks.

As to the cuisine itself, while the odd Asian meal will be offered, most dishes will be European, Swiss stews and tripe also featuring.

If you would like to see all what the Eggimanns have done prior to the Rössli re-opening, an open day has been arranged for Thursday.
