Protection requirements adapted:

From next Saturday, up to 100 people will be able to be present indoors in bars and clubs in the canton of Zug at the same time. The Zug Government Council (Regierungsrat) has adapted the corresponding requirements, and has further clarified the mask obligation.

From 13 July, a maximum of 30 people has been permitted to be in the interior areas of clubs and bars in the canton of Zug at the same time. This maximum number will be raised to 100 from Saturday, 22 August, as announced by the Canton of Zug on Wednesday morning. This means that clubs and bars will be subject to the same rules as events, which will also simplify enforcement. "The latest findings show that clubs are not responsible for a large number of infections at the current time. That’s why this massive easing is appropriate," Health Director Martin Pfister is quoted as saying in the statement.

Clarifications on face-mask obligation
During the inspections in the canton of Zug, it has been noted on several occasions in recent weeks that the protection concepts of some trade associations are not quite clear. According to the press release, the Zug government council has therefore imposed a face-mask obligation for all services where there is physical contact or where the minimum social distance cannot be observed. These include hairdresser salons, tattoo studios, beauty studios and massage parlours. The mask obligation applies to all persons present, i.e. both customers and employees. These rules do not apply to shops or restaurants, as there is no physical contact there and the minimum social distance can be observed.

Either keep the minimum distance or wear a mask
Until now, events of up to 300 people could be held in the canton of Zug without minimum social distance and the wearing of protective masks, as long as individual sectors with the collection of contact data were formed for this purpose. As this requirement has led to some ambiguities in its implementation, the following will apply from Saturday 22 August onwards for events with 100 people or more: either the minimum social distance must be complied with, or masks must be worn. An even greater emphasis on the implementation of effective protection measures was also indicated. In the current, tense epidemiological situation, great caution is still required, especially at events.

"If more than 100 people take part in an event, and this leads to a spread of the contagion, the subsequent contact tracing would require an enormous effort," says cantonal doctor Rudolf Hauri in the press release of the cantonal health directorate. "Maintaining contact tracing is of paramount importance in order to be able to quickly interrupt the contagion chains." This adaptation does not affect restaurants, where people consume while seated, and where appropriate protection concepts apply, and this is also the case for cinema screenings.
