Police looking for witness after fire in sauna

The fire department had to be deployed on Monday evening after a head support caught fire in a sauna. Nobody was injured, and the property damage is minor.

According to the Zug police, the fire broke out shortly before 7.15 p.m. on Baarerstrasse in the city of Zug. A guest at a fitness centre wanted to take a sauna. When he opened the door of the sweat room, he was surprised to see a lot of smoke. He immediately reported this to the reception, who sent an emergency call to the Zug police centre. The Zug volunteer fire brigade FFZ were immediately alerted and were quickly on site, and entered the sauna wearing breathing protection.

Around 30 firefighters from the Zug volunteer fire department were deployed.

In the interior of the sweat room, the fire department found a wooden headrest lying on the stones of the open sauna heater. This was taken outside in a bucket filled with water. Once the affected sauna had been cleared of smoke, the area could be used again. One person was examined on site by the Zug emergency services due to suspected smoke poisoning. Nobody’s health was affected, however, and the property damage is minor.

The Zug police ask the unknown man who reported the fire and smoke to the reception to contact the Zug police centre on 041 728 41 41. His statements would be helpful for further investigations. Around 30 members of the Zug volunteer fire brigade, the fire brigade inspector, employees of the Zug emergency services and the Zug police were deployed.
