Police appeal for witnesses: petrol from damaged petrol pump reaches a stream

A driver whose identity is currently unknown caused damage to a petrol pump at a petrol station on the Sinserstrasse in Cham on Friday evening. As a result, several hundred litres of petrol flowed out of the pump.

Was it carelessness? Forgetfulness? Or were there other reasons for the actions of an unknown driver on Friday evening (11. November 2022) in Cham? At around 6:30 pm, an as yet unidentified person drove away after refuelling at the filling station on the Sinserstrasse, without first removing the nozzle from the car petrol inlet. The car thereby carried the fuel nozzle with it, resulting in massive damage to the petrol pump, as the Zug police write in a announcement, and around 350 litres of petrol thereby flowed out of the pump, with a large of this finding its way into the sewer system and from there into the Grobenmoosbach stream.

On Saturday, the Cham Fire Brigade and the Zug base fire brigade (FFZ) installed several oil barriers in the Grobenmoosbach stream to stop the fuel from spreading. These will remain in place for several more days. In addition, a sewer cleaning company had to be called in to flush out the affected sewers.

For several hours, the Sinserstrasse was only passable in one lane in the area of the filling station; the Cham Fire Brigade set up a traffic light service during this time. The Zug police have taken up the investigation into the incident.

Note: Any persons who can provide information about the vehicle or driver that caused the damage are asked to report to the Operations Control Centre of the Zug Police on 041 728 41 41.
