Police appeal for witnesses after assault on woman on her way home

The police have issued an appeal to anyone who may have witnessed an assault on a 29-year-old woman by a young man on her way home in the early hours of Saturday 30 June to call them.

It was at half past midnight that the woman was making her way from the Männerbadi lido towards the centre of the city when, as she walked by the Schützenmatt gymnasium, she was grabbed on the shoulder by a young man she did not know.

There followed a tussle during which the woman was able to free herself, subsequently fleeing along Chamerstrasse in the direction of the Golden Kiosk, where she tried to flag down an approaching car. However, the man had followed her and again he grabbed hold of her, this time tearing her top. The man then fled the scene.

The man in question was described as around 18 years old, between 175 and 180 cm tall, of dark complexion, brown eyes and a narrow face. His black frizzly hair had also been distinctively styled to a “flat top”, i.e. almost shaven at the sides but 8 cm long on top.

As to his clothing, he was wearing a black T-shirt with Adidas written in white on it with black shorts and Adidas stripes on the sides, white socks and dark Adidas trainers.

It could be that he shows an injury on his face as a result of the struggle the pair had.

The police would also like the driver of the afore-mentioned silver-coloured car being driven along Chamerstrasse at the time to call them, too, on 041 728 41 41.
