Peter Niederberger of the CVP party will call for a youth quota if elected to the National Council

Peter Niederberger, a partner of the TinCan Hello marketing agency, says if he is elected to the National Council in elections next month he will call for a youth quota.

The 27-year-old, who is member of the board of the Young CVP party, the JCVP, said that, while there was frequently talk of a women’s quota, there was need for a young people’s quota, bearing in mind they are so under-represented in parliament.

As to core issues he felt were particularly important, he mentioned three long-term ones, namely a reduction in health costs by means of people taking greater responsibility for their own health, and digitalisation. Then he felt better framework conditions were needed to be created for commuting of the future, leading to a reduction in living expenses while protecting the environment at the same time. “Then I would encourage all young people to take a greater interest in politics,” he said.

As to his chances of being elected, he admitted these were practically nil, “but there are some great people on the list and it is hoped these will be elected,” he said. “We will be grateful for every vote we get.”

He went to say that he would be pleased if the people of Zug voted for those candidates who have already done much for the canton and plan to do much more. Better to elect these than those expressing populist views. “Voting for the CVP would be a good thing, but if people want to support us in the JCVP, then so much the better.”
