Perhaps the smallest photo gallery in Switzerland

For a week now, the self-proclaimed smallest photo gallery in Switzerland has been located at Bahnhofstrasse 26 in Zug. The 2.2-metre-high and 1.4-metre-wide showcase belongs to the building of the Cantonal Tax Administration. Behind it is an interactive flat screen that alternately shows photographs of people taking photographs.

Behind the action is the newly founded association Foto Forum Zug, which has set itself the goal of promoting photography as an art form in the city of Zug. The official vernissage, entitled "Föteli machen", took place on Sunday, November 24, at 2 pm by the showcase. The exhibiting artist, whose photographs have been flickering across the screen for a week, is American-born Gary Soskin.

In his work, Soskin wants to explore, how the act of photography has become an almost constant part of our daily lives. "You can’t go anywhere today without seeing someone taking pictures," he says. The title of the exhibition also has an amusing background: "When I arrived in Switzerland in 1981, I was very irritated by the word ‘Föteli’," recalls the retired professional photographer. To him, the diminutive in the Swiss-German vocabulary seemed to diminish the value of his art form., he has overcome it in the meantime, and: "One could say that the once-dreaded term ‘Föteli’ is indeed the inspiration for this series of photos."

The pictures by Gary Soskin show how the act of photographing has become an almost constant part of our daily lives.

In addition to Soskin, the Foto Forum is made up of four other experienced Swiss male photographers and one female photographer, all of whom have already taken photographs for various magazines, newspapers, advertisements, music covers or as an art form.

The “Föteli mache” exhibition can be seen up to the 5th of January. The next vernissage will then follow after a short break, on January 10. "Following my exhibition, another member of the forum will present his works in the showcase," says Soskin. The six photographers, including Stefan Kaiser from our newspaper, have a lot of plans for next year: "We are planning at least six shows a year. We also want to organise lectures and other photo events in and around Zug”.
