Pedestrian on pedestrian crossing hit by car and critically injured

A car hit a pedestrian head-on on a pedestrian crossing. The man was taken to hospital by Rega, and is in a critical condition.

According to the press release of the Zug law enforcement authorities, the accident happened on the Hinterbergstrasse in Steinhausen shortly before 9.15 a.m. on Friday morning, the 13th  of November. A motorist travelling towards the Zugerland shopping centre didn’t see the 74-year-old man on the pedestrian crossing lane, and hit him head-on.

The pedestrian was thrown to the side by the collision, and suffered life-threatening injuries. After initial medical treatment by the Zug Ambulance Service, he was transferred in a critical condition to a hospital in a neighbouring canton by the Rega air ambulance service.

The exact cause of the accident is the subject of further investigation, and the evidence at the scene was secured by the forensic service of the Zug Police. The public prosecutor's office of the canton of Zug has ordered a blood and urine sample of the person responsible for the accident to be taken at the hospital. His driver's licence was also confiscated and forwarded to the administrative authority (Road Traffic Office).

The Hinterbergstrasse had to be temporarily closed for the recovery of the injured person, as well as for the securing of evidence, and a diversion was signalled. Employees of the Zug ambulance service, the Rega, the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Canton of Zug and the Zug police were on duty.
