Paraglider sustains serious injuries as he hits ground

A trainee paraglider was seriously injured as he landed in a field near Oberwil last Saturday.

The incident happened shortly after 2pm as the 30-year-old was planning to land in the Gimenen area of the municipality. It was as he was making his approach having taken off from nearby Zugerberg that he suddenly plunged several metres to the ground, landing with some force and leading him to sustain serious injuries.

As can be seen in the photograph, a Rega rescue helicopter was summoned to take him to hospital.

The precise circumstances of the accident are still being investigated.
