Outdoor candle sets a hedge on fire

On the night leading to Wednesday, July 15, a hedge caught fire in a residential quarter in Hünenberg. Residents alerted the fire brigade and started to extinguish the fire, thereby preventing the fire spreading to the house.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, July 15, shortly after 3.30 a.m., the Operations Control Centre of the Zug Police received a report that a hedge was burning on the Rigistrasse in Hünenberg. The residents of the property, who were awakened and alerted to the fire by a neighbour, tried to extinguish the fire on their own using a garden hose, according to a statement from the Zug law enforcement authorities

The hedge burned down over a length of about 30 metres, and had to be completely extinguished by the Hünenberg fire brigade. Thanks to the efforts of the private individual and the fire brigade, the flames were be prevented from spreading to the house. Smoke entered the house through an open window, however, causing damage to the interior. The property is still habitable, however.

Three people were examined by the Zug Ambulance Service for health problems, but no one was injured. According to what is known at the moment, the fire was started by a burning candle in an outdoor lantern-with a wooden frame, which was in close proximity to the hedge. About 60 members of the Hünenberg fire brigade, as well as employees of the Zug ambulance service and the Zug police were on duty.
