Opening times in Zug over the Christmas period
The Pro Zug business association has issued a press release giving information about shop opening hours over the Christmas period, and outlining their special Christmas events in Zug.
Opening times on Sundays in Advent
Shops in Zug will be open from 10 am to 5 pm on the Sundays, 14th and 21st December 2025, inviting residents to do some Christmas shopping on these day.
Additional Christmas activities will also enrich the city during Advent.
Christmas Opening Hours
Christmas Eve, Wednesday, 24th December 2025: open from 6 am to 5 pm.
Christmas Day, Thursday, 25th December 2025: closed the whole day
St. Stephen's Day: Friday 26th December 2025: closed the whole day
New Year's Eve: Wednesday, 31st December 2025: open from 6 am to 5 pm.
New Year's Day: Thursday, 1st January 1, 2026: closed the whole day
Berchtold's Day: Friday, 2nd January 2026: open from 6 am to 7 pm.
The shops in Rail City Zug are open on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Christmas attractions in the City of Zug
Advent Programme at the Metalli Centre in Zug
In addition to various Christmas activities at the Metalli shopping centre, musical entertainment will be offered in the mall on the above-mentioned open Sundays.
The "Chor Zug" choir looks forward to welcoming visitors to the mall who would like to listen to Christmas carols on Sunday, 14th December. Performances at 12:30 pm, 1:30 pm, and 3 pm.
The second open-Sunday shopping event on 21st December 2025 will be accompanied by Christmas music from "Chorisma" at 12:30 pm, 1:30 pm, and 3:00 pm.
The popular "karo kariert" Advent gathering, with its mulled wine bar on the Metalli-Platz, will also be open until 21st December 2025.

Samichlaus (St Nicholas) on the move on 6th December 2025
Samichlaus and his helpers (Schmutzli) will be on the Bundesplatz (EPA Platz) once again this year. He will be giving gifts to children and will be happy to hear their Samichlaus sayings from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday, 6th December.
Samichlaus will also be at the Metalli Centre from 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm.
Zug Fairy Tale Sunday (Maerlisunntig), Sunday, 7th December 2025
For one afternoon, Zug's historic old town transforms into a fairy tale town. From 1:30 pm to 6:00 pm, 29 fairy tale rooms (Märlistuben) with storytellers and theatrical productions, outdoor attractions for children, Santa Claus groups, fairy tale characters, music, food stalls, and much more await you.

Magic of Lights at the X-Mas Line on the Bahnhofstrasse
The atmospheric mini Christmas market with 15 stalls will take place on the Bahnhofstrasse in Zug from the 10th to the 21st December 2025, Wednesday through Sunday, and offers a variety of culinary specialties and unique gift ideas.
Mulled wine and mulled gin will, of course, also be available, and musical entertainment is provided.

Christmas gift idea: the Pro Zug Gift Card
The Pro Zug Gift Card (Zuger Geschenkkarte) is a popular Christmas gift for friends and family. It can be ordered online at www.prozug.ch, or can be purchased at Zug Tourism and loaded with the desired amount. It can be redeemed at approximately 150 shops and restaurants in the city of Zug.

Background information on the Pro Zug Association
The Pro Zug Association (VPZ), the umbrella organisation for Zug's business associations, focuses on political problem-solving and coordination tasks related to retail trade within the individual business associations and other related organisations.
The Zug Association also sells the Pro Zug gift card, which can be redeemed at most member businesses. The association has approximately 230 members. The board, which represents the interests of the individual business associations, is comprised of members from the existing neighbourhood groups.
Any retail or service business in the city of Zug can become a member of Pro Zug.
