One fatality and eight injured

There was a serious traffic accident on the A14 motorway near Ebikon on Wednesday afternoon. One person was fatally injured. Eight other people were taken to hospital.
 

A serious accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon on the A14 motorway between Lucerne and Zug. According to a statement by the Lucerne police, and for reasons that are still unclear, a delivery van veered to the right between the Buchrain junction and the Rathausen tunnel at around 1.40 pm, and collided with the crash barrier on the right-hand side. It was then thrown back into the lane, collided head-on with the central reservation barrier, broke through it and overturned.

The delivery van thereby collided with several oncoming vehicles. A total of three cars and one truck were involved, and one person was killed. The Emmen and Oberseetal fire brigades were called to the scene, and eight other injured people were taken to hospital by ambulance.

A14 motorway closed for several hours
According to the Lucerne Police, the A14 motorway was expected to remain closed for several hours in the direction of Zug between the Rotsee junction and Buchrain. They recommended that travellers from Basel heading towards Schwyz should take the diversion via the A2/A4 motorways from the A2 Rotsee junction.
