New International school opens in Dierikon

A new international school opened this week in Dierikon LU. The Lucerne International School aims at both international and local students from Grade 9 to 12.

A new international high school, the Lucerne International School, opened its doors this week. Founding director Kamran Baig welcomed local administrators, including Dierikon mayor (Gemeindepräsident) Max Hess and Kylian Graf (Education) to a guided tour and snacks on Tuesday morning, and introduced his school concept.

The school offers education for 16 to 18-year olds, leading to iGSCE or A-level qualifications, and combines classic teaching methods with digital aids. The so-called "Blended Learning" is intended to respond flexibly and optimally to the individual needs of the students, rather than the student having to adapt to a more rigid class structure . Students from the Swiss system, the International Baccalaureate (IB) system and the Cambridge international system, can transition seemlessly into the school.

"In the traditional school,” says Kamran Baig, “The teacher teaches an entire class, and the individuals have to adapt to the system. In our school, the system adapts to the individuals."

This allows the students to follow their courses in a flexible manner, either on-line or with face-to-face teaching, whichever suits them best. Problems that can occur at other, more traditional schools, such as bullying and mobbing, can be quickly ascertained by the teacher, and the necessary corrective measures can be applied.

The school has premises on the Pilatusstrasse in Dierikon, which has good public transport connections from both Zug and Lucerne. Students have access to a laboratory in Rotkreuz, as well as to gym facilities in a nearby building for their weekly PE sessions, and can benefit from an annual membership outside of school hours. The Dierikon premises are thereby ideal for the catchment areas of Zug and Lucerne.

Registration is now possible for the 2021/2022 academic year.
