New bus timetables to apply from March 30th

Zugerland Public Transport (Zugerland Verkehrsbetriebe ZVB) is adapting the bus timetables due to the Corona Virus measures. Mountain railways and ships will no longer operate for the time being.

As the ZVB announced on Tuesday, public transport will also be reduced in the canton of Zug in the next few weeks. "All the measures are coordinated nationally," announced Karin Fröhlich, the communications officer at ZVB. The SBB and Postauto are the system leaders for rail and road, whose changed timetables will be gradually adapted by all transport companies in Switzerland. "The aim is to be able to offer a functioning timetable even if the corona virus continues to spread," explains Karin Fröhlich.

The new ZVB timetable is scheduled to be completed by March 25 and will enter into force on March 30. "This is an exceptional situation for us," stresses Fröhlich. “Never before have all timetables throughout Switzerland had to be renewed and adapted in such a short time.” The existing timetables will still apply on the roads of canton Zug until March 30. According to a decision by the Federal Council, however, no night buses will operate in all of Switzerland from the coming weekend. "It will definitely be worthwhile to check the connections in the Internet again before going on a trip in the future."

The start of the season for regular passenger ships on Lake Zug and Lake Aegeri will not be in mid-April, as originally planned, but is being postponed until further notice. "In addition, all special and extra trips will be cancelled up to April 19," says a media release from Zugersee Schifffahrt (Lake Zug Shipping). This also includes private events such as weddings and other celebrations.

The new EVZ bus will also be seen less frequently.

The Zug mountain railway (Zugerbergbahn) will cease operations on March 18. As part of the Zug tariff network, the train fulfils the basic public transport connections of the Zugerberg. For this reason, buses will be operated as a replacement for the resident population, following a reduced schedule. These journeys are intended exclusively as transport services for the population. The tourist traffic on the Zugerberg is stopped. The Bike Trail now has the status "orange". This means that bike transport is no longer provided. Ticket sales at the counters of the Zugerberg Bahn are also stopped. Tickets can be bought at the ticket machines at the valley and mountain stations.

The ZVB buses are cleaned daily as standard. "We have been disinfecting every vehicle every evening since the first corona cases were recorded in the canton of Zug," says Fröhlich. They are also otherwise following the hygiene recommendations of the federal government.

Bus drivers have already received extra protection for a week now, by keeping the front doors closed and not allowing travellers to use the front seats. Tickets can no longer be bought from the driver. “Blind people are the only exception. They can still enter the bus from the front,” explains Fröhlich. “Wheelchair users can still enter from the back and will be assisted by the bus driver if necessary.” The passengers are now additionally protected by the driver now opening the door manually, so that no switches have to be pressed. "In addition, we recommend keeping a distance of two metres from other passengers if possible." The company appeals to the personal responsibility of the travellers here.
