Multiple burglaries and thefts from vehicles in the last few days

Burglaries have occurred in apartments and basement storage units in four municipalities in the canton of Zug in recent days.

The break-ins took place between Thursday evening (4th December) and Sunday morning (7th December) in the municipalities of Cham, Risch, and the city of Zug. Several single-family and multi-family homes were targeted, as reported by the Zug Police on Tuesday. The perpetrators stole jewellery and cash worth several thousand Swiss francs.

During the same period, several basement storage units in the municipalities of Cham and Baar were forcibly broken into and searched. In one instance, the perpetrators were disturbed by residents, and two men fled the scene on foot. Despite an immediate search, they could not be apprehended, according to the police report.

In addition, a group of perpetrators gained access to two communal garages in the municipality of Cham and searched several unlocked vehicles. They stole several pairs of glasses and articles of clothing, according to reports.

Working together against burglary
The police urge the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. Pay particular attention to unfamiliar individuals acting suspiciously in the neighbourhood, as well as unfamiliar vehicles driving slowly or erratically through the streets. Unusual noises, such as breaking glass or splintering wood, should also be immediately reported to the police. Providing as much detail as possible is helpful.

The police also recommend consistently protecting your home: always close and lock all doors and windows, avoid giving any indication of your absence, and inform your neighbours if you will be away for an extended period.

A car is not a safe
Always lock your vehicle when you leave it, even if it's just for a short time or if you park it in a seemingly secure location. Furthermore, do not leave valuables in your car, as burglars often target hidden compartments such as the glove box or trunk.

Immediately report any suspicious observations to the police via the emergency number 117: for example if people are lurking around parked cars or searching them.
