Motorcyclist crashes into car on the A4 motorway
A 42-year-old motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries after a collision with a car on the A4 motorway near Knonau. Another person sustained minor injuries. The accident caused traffic disruptions on the A4 motorway.
A 25-year-old driver and his passenger were traveling on the A4 motorway between Knonau (ZH) and Mettmenstetten (ZH) in the direction of Zurich at around 4:45 pm on Sunday. He was driving in the overtaking lane and had to brake sharply due to heavy traffic, as the Zug Law Enforcement Authorities (Strafverfolgungsbehörden) reported on Monday.
A 42-year-old motorcyclist following behind noticed the sudden braking too late, and crashed into the rear of the car without braking. As a result, the bike crashed, slid across the right lane, and finally came to a stop on the hard shoulder. The motorcyclist sustained life-threatening injuries in the collision, according to the report. After receiving initial medical treatment at the scene, he was transported by the Zug ambulance service to a hospital outside the canton.
The 30-year-old female passenger in the car suffered minor injuries, while the car driver remained uninjured.

The accident caused traffic disruptions
The exact circumstances of the accident are the subject of further investigation under the direction of the Zurich Cantonal Prosecutor's Office (Staatsanwaltschaft), who have ordered blood and urine tests for the motorcyclist. The vehicles involved in the accident have been impounded.
This section of the motorway is under the jurisdiction of the Zug Police, and the traffic police and a drone pilot from the Zug Police were among those involved in securing evidence at the scene. The right lane in the accident area had to be temporarily closed for patient care, the accident investigation and vehicle recovery. Traffic was able to pass the accident site in a single lane, but this still resulted in traffic disruptions.
Staff from the Zug Rescue Service (Rettungsdienst) and several officers from the Zug Police were deployed to the scene, and a private towing company was also on site.
Just the day before, a motorcyclist was critically injured on the A4 motorway near Rotkreuz, and also had to be taken to a hospital outside the canton (we reported this on Monday).
